Product design

Amazon IVS

Summary

Challenge

The Amazon IVS (Interactive Video Service) team needed a way to demonstrate how the service could be used to build User Generated Content functionality into an app. They wanted something that was convincing as a stand alone app and easy to use as a starting point for the client’s own projects. From a design perspective it needed to be a high quality and engaging experience, with visual styling that did not take away from the feature-focused intent.

Solution

We designed and built a live streaming app that included interactive features like chat, quiz, polling, private streaming, product highlights and much more. The design was approached with simplicity and clarity as the focus, despite the complexity of the technology being used. This live demo provided the sales team with a high quality solution to help their customer realize the potential of Amazon IVS.

Outcome

The quality of design and code made the app a highly effective sales tool and a great foundation for customers creating their own UGC products with Amazon IVS.

Design system

Starting with a component library, we expanded to a more extensive design system.

A naming system was established for tokens.

The tokens allowed us to create dark and light mode versions of the app.

Contributions

I worked on end to end UX/UI design and research, collaborating with one other designer, a project manager, and team of engineers within the agency. We reported directly to the design director on the Amazon IVS team.

This was part of a larger 2+ year engagement that included visual design and UX/UI consulting on several projects for Amazon IVS and Twitch.
